Rigs(Days of Ruin) or Mobile Workshops(Dark Conflict) or 工作車(失われた光) are units that can transport one infantry/mech unit and build Temporary Airports and Temporary Ports. More importantly, they can resupply up to four adjacent units per turn, restoring all ammo and fuel for nearby land, sea, and air units at no cost.
Rigs are initially introduced in The Beast, and become buildable in Almost Home.
Strategy[]
A rig in Advance Wars : Days Of Ruin
Although rigs are sometimes easy to overlook due to their lack of combat abilities, they are an important unit type that serves multiple purposes. Their ability to move foot soldiers quickly (and cheaply, in terms of fuel) can allow a player to capture properties much more quickly. They can use the same ability to bring emergency backup units to the front line and thus turn the tide of battle.
Its supply ability can keep naval and air units from sinking/crashing in the absence of a port or airport to refuel them at. Used properly, rigs allow a player to keep submarines hidden and in operation indefinitely. The supply ability is also useful for resupplying ammunition and fuel for units on the front line, especially indirect Units and other units with a small ammo capacity. Rigs help them stay at the battlefield without a need to retreat to resupply, thus removing the risk of having to lower your combat strength and open a gap in your front-line.
Despite being able to provide unlimited fuel, they themselves will run out unless supplied by another building or rig.
In Days of Ruin, because rigs can build temporary ports for both air and sea units, they have become even more important on the battlefield. It is highly recommended to build these in areas close to where combat takes place just in case your rig dies. Beware of enemies trying to capture these temporary ports for their own benefit.
Rigs are important for keeping flares and seaplanes resupplied. Having a rig near the sea can prevent a seaplane having to retreat to its carrier.
Temp ports and airports can be used as an alternative road for Tire A type vehicles.
Trivia[]
- The rig is called the Constructor in the Japanese version of Days of Ruin.
- Rubinelle rigs resemble the US M113 and the M901 ITV.
- Rigs are the one unit that the AI will never build, though they know how to use if pre-deployed.
