(Remove the excessive "Schützenpanzer Lang HS.30", as Sd Kfz 231 is already the closest Green Earth recon counterpart, in terms of both function and apprearance.)

It's good in the early-game since capturing is essential, and Tanks aren't in play yet. You will also need a Recon to counter the enemy's Recon that will try to stop your Infantry from capturing. However, in mid to late game, they are easily countered by Mechs, Tanks, B-Copters and even Anti-Airs, so they aren't worth the investment later on

Tactics

Recon units have a high movement range, which means they can deploy early in the presence of roads (or other terrain where they have no penalties). Therefore they are good for harassing capturing infantry or indirect units. Don't use them to attack Mechs, since Mechs are more powerful than Recons (despite their low cost). They are weak, so many players hide recons in woods during fog of war to identify targets. They are not recommended for maps with a lot of Woods present.

Competitive Play

In Fog of War value, they have the highest vision range, so for that reason, they are essential for that type of play.

Outside of Fog of War, the Recon unit does have some uses. It's mainly a tool to quickly reach the center of the map and prevent the enemy Infantry from capturing, since it has very fast movement (in light terrain).

Trivia
