Neotanks

Neotanks of each force from AW2.

Neotanks are a Land Unit. To date, they have appeared in two games: Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising and Advance Wars: Dual Strike. They were based on tank technology originally developed by Black Hole. Neotanks are significantly more powerful than Medium Tanks, though not as powerful as Megatanks. They can use their main cannon to attack Land or Sea Units. As well as Battle Copters and Transport Copters with their Machine Gun. The tanks are based on a single, uniform design by Black Hole, so the Neotanks of all the factions look alike.

Unlocking in Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising

To use Neotanks in the Campaign mode of Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising, players must capture specific cities during the campaign to obtain maps to Black Hole Labs. This will allow the force on that continent to travel to the maps location, unlocking a new mission. Upon capturing the Lab, that army can produce Neotanks. Lab levels are always timed, either because the enemy is trying to destroy the lab, or additional reinforcements are on their way.

Strategy

Neotanks are very powerful against ground units, being able to wipe out infantry and weaker vehicles in one hit. Although they are not as strong as Megatanks, Neotanks have several advantages over them. Neotanks can move 50% faster, carry twice the fuel, three times the ammunition, and cost 20% less to build. This makes Neotanks much more effective than Megatanks when they are used offensively.

Despite this, Neotanks are still very expensive to build, so the player may be better off building larger numbers of cheaper units instead.

Competitive Play

In the campaigns and some War Room missions of Advance Wars 2 and Dual Strike, it's a good option for busting pipeseams, destroying Md. Tanks and overall defense. In competitive play, it's not used very much (with the exception of Colin and Hachi, who can afford it).

Md. Tanks aren't common to begin with and are better off being countered by an Artillery unit for nearly 1/4 the price, rather than a Neotank. Neotanks are too expensive, and saving money (rather than deploying weaker units to build up your unit count) is not a good strategy.
