Hope Rising(Days of Ruin) or Hope Never Dies(Dark Conflict) is the 16th mission in Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. It introduces boarding a CO onto player-controlled units and CO powers.
Story[]
Following the escape from the internment center, some soldiers have deserted the 12th Battalion and some civilians are struggling to keep up. Lin decides to leave behind those who are struggling to keep pace, something that Dr. Morris disagrees with but Lin states that she did not have an easy time reaching this decision as there are Lazurian soldiers with them that have had no time to assimilate into the 12th Battalion along with civilians and wounded that are currently impossible to keep safe. Dr. Morris then mentions that the civilians should probably know about the current situation, something that Lin agrees with. Dr. Morris then warns her that the slightest hint of really bad news could make them panic, so she has to watch her words carefully.
The civilians are not happy about this, but Lin states that the 12th Battalion is composed of free men instead of slaves. Anyone who wants to leave can do so, but they will be on their own if they choose to leave. Isabella then steps in and says that everyone needs to work together, which as Dr. Morris then says managed to prevent a rebellion. Lin however cynically notes that they may have only bought a little more time before it causes trouble again. Meanwhile, Will is still in depression about Brenner's death just as a Rubinelle soldier reports that they have been found and are already under attack.
After capturing a factory once the fighting has begun, Will still cannot get over Brenner's death when Isabella arrives. He confides to her that when Brenner saved him, everything was clear to him that he should help him look for survivors. Now that he is dead though, he is at a loss about what to do. Isabella doesn't know either, but knows that she is sad because he is and she hates it. She then says that when Will is happy, she is happy as well and doesn't want to be sad anymore. This snaps Will out of his depression and say that he must now use his life to save others, much like Brenner did.
After driving off Greyfield's troops, Lin and Will converse with each other before she pulls him inside the command tent to tell him that she wants him to be the new leader of the 12th Battalion, something that Will is reluctant to do because of his inexperience. Lin then mentions that the civilians don't like her and that the Lazurians are more willing to trust Will. Will then agrees with Lin to lead the Battalion.
