A Commanding Officer ("C.O." for short) is, normally, the highest ranking military person at a base, area, or combat situtation.
Historically, C.O.s are usually generals, but can be as low as lieutenants in small groups. In the Advance Wars games, exact rank is unknown for most, if not all, C.O.s.
During each battle, the player assumes control over a C.O.'s actions.
