Anti-Air Tanks are a type of Land Units. They have appeared in every Advance Wars game to date. As the name suggests, they excel in taking out Air Units. They are also very effective against Infantry and Mech, usually taking them out in one attack, and even Recon. They are however weak against most other armored units.

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin[]
- Main article: Anti-Air (Days of Ruin)
Strategy[]
Anti-Air Tanks are mobile and strong against air and low armor units. They can take out Bombers with little to no damage taken depending on the CO, can attack Light Tanks with adequate damage and are one of the best units to counterattack with. Not only that, but AA Tanks are also useful for shielding indirects when tanks and infantries are unavailable. However, being a direct unit, AA Tanks are vulnerable to counterattacks from units that can survive their initial attack.
Competitive Play[]
Anti-Air Tanks are used in every competitive play where an Airport is present, as they are the only affordable counter to B-Copter, which will become a threat if left untouched, as well as early-game Infantry and Mech units. Besides from being fairly effective against Recons, AA Tanks are almost always weak against other vehicle units. With a quick 6-space movement speed however, AA Tanks can outrun most units that threaten them given a one-space gap.
Against Mech units, whichever unit strikes first wins. Only when your AA Tank has an equal or higher amount of HP than the Mech unit should you make your attack. It's best to keep your AA Tank out of the Mech's attacking range, as one hit from it can devastate your AA Tank unit.
During the late game, you can keep some Anti-Air Tanks around your properties to defense against a surprise T-Copter and Infantries raid on your bases. AA Tanks are good counters to those units and can thwart their attacks easily.
Anti-Air Tanks are also a great way to counter Bombers (if you strike first), Dusters and Fighters, but this is precisely the reason why they are not commonly used in the first place.
Trivia[]
- The Orange Star AA is based on the US M247 Sergeant York. The same goes to Rubinelle (12th Battalion and NRA).
- The Blue Moon AA is based on the Russian ZSU-57-2. The same goes for Lazuria and IDS.
- The Green Earth AA is based on the German Flakpanzer IV Kugelblitz.
- The Yellow Comet AA is based on the Japanese Type 98 Ho-Ki.
